About Sentul
Sentul, in north-central Kuala Lumpur, has a rich history as the site of the Malayan Railway's main workshop since 1905. For decades it was a working-class district centred around the rail yards. Since the 2000s, the area has undergone significant regeneration with the Sentul Raya development transforming former railway land into a modern mixed-use precinct while retaining heritage elements.
Property in Sentul spans a wide spectrum — from pre-independence workers' quarters and 1960s walk-up flats to the contemporary towers of Sentul East, The Fennel and The Capers. The older housing stock, particularly terraced homes in Taman Sentul and Bandar Baru Sentul, feature timber elements that are vulnerable to termites. Legacy plumbing in walk-up flats creates cockroach migration highways.
The commercial landscape includes the traditional Sentul Pasar market, kopitiams along Jalan Sentul and the new retail offerings within the Sentul Raya development. Demolition of older structures during regeneration displaces established rat and termite populations into nearby residential areas. The remaining pockets of older development surrounded by construction activity face compounded pest pressure.
